FREE access to instruments for students

How The Instrument Library Works

Get Started: Borrowing an Instrument Made Simple

If you are a student or a parent of a student in Newfoundland & Labrador who would benefit from the Instrument Library, please let your school’s music or band teacher know. Your teacher can contact us to arrange an instrument for your use.
The following steps represent the typical instrument lending process:

Step 1. Identifying a student

A music teacher in a Newfoundland and Labrador school identifies a student who would thrive with a musical instrument but may lack the means to purchase or rent one. By recognizing a student’s passion and potential, the teacher helps open the door to new opportunities for musical growth and creative expression.

Step 2. Contacting the Instrument Library

The teacher visits our website and logs in or creates a free account to get started. Once registered, they gain access to our resources and become valued partners in our mission to break financial barriers and support student participation in school music programs with free, high-quality instruments.

Step 3. Submitting a request

The teacher submits an instrument request using our online system, selecting an available instrument. Our streamlined process minimizes administrative work, helping teachers quickly and efficiently secure instruments so students can focus on learning, practicing, and performing music alongside their peers.

Step 4. Coordinating pickup or delivery

After the request is processed, the teacher can either pick up the instrument at our St. John’s location or request delivery by a volunteer. We prioritize flexibility and convenience, ensuring teachers can access instruments without difficulty and that students receive their instruments as soon as possible.

Step 5. Giving the instrument to the student

The teacher provides the student with their instrument, enabling participation in music classes and bands for the school year. This exciting moment empowers students to engage with music fully, develop their skills, and gain confidence—all without the burden of financial barriers that might otherwise limit their access.

Step 6. Returning the instrument

At the end of the school year, the teacher arranges for the instrument’s return to the library, where it undergoes inspection and maintenance. This ensures the instrument remains in top condition for future students, continuing the library’s goal of providing free, accessible instruments year after year.
