About the Instrument Library

How It Works

The Instrument Library operates as a community-supported resource that provides students with free access to musical instruments. Our aim to eliminate financial barriers to music education.

Who We Are

We are a group of passionate individuals who believe in the transformative power of music education. We strive to ensure every aspiring musician has the opportunity to learn and be inspired by music.

Our Namesake & Inspiration

Katie Sullivan has been a dedicated and compassionate music educator in St. John’s for over 30 years, inspiring countless young musicians and fostering a love of music that has helped shape the local community.

Instruments for Inspiration, Access for All

We strive to make music education accessible to all students in our community schools by providing free access to instruments, fostering creativity, community, and lifelong learning.

We place musical instruments directly into the hands of students in our community who need them. While some families are able to buy or rent instruments, many others face financial barriers that limit their children’s ability to participate in school music programs. Although some schools offer a limited supply of instruments, the need remains significant. We believe deeply in the importance of music education and are committed to ensuring that every student, regardless of financial circumstances, has the chance to engage fully in their school’s music and band programs.

Creating Opportunities, One Instrument at a Time

Inspired by Katie Sullivan, a dedicated music teacher who for many years has sought out instruments for her students by reaching into her own network, we aim to build upon her vision. Teachers like Katie go above and beyond to support their students, yet the demand often surpasses available resources. The Instrument Library was created to meet this need—a central, community-supported resource where teachers can access free instruments for any student who requires one, ensuring every child can experience the joy and growth that come from participating in music education.

Our Mission

To inspire creativity, connection, and lifelong learning by providing musical instruments to students at no cost, enabling them to participate fully in school music and band programs and experience the joy of making music.

Our Vision

For every child in our communities, regardless of their financial background, to have access to the tools and opportunities needed to explore their musical potential and develop skills for a lifetime of artistic expression and personal growth.

Our Values

We are guided by our core values of Accessibility, Community, Inclusion, Sustainability, Empowerment, and Gratitude.
