Land Acknowledgment

As part of our commitment to fostering community and understanding, we recognize the importance of acknowledging the lands on which we live, learn, and make music. Land acknowledgements are a meaningful step toward truth and reconciliation. They remind us of our shared history, the enduring presence of Indigenous Peoples, and our responsibility to foster respectful relationships. For us, this commitment extends beyond words—it informs our values and actions as we work to make music education accessible to all.

By acknowledging the history of this land, we recognize the importance of listening, learning, and supporting initiatives that contribute to reconciliation and equity. We invite our community of students, educators, and supporters to reflect on the significance of these acknowledgements and to join us in fostering a more inclusive future through music.

Land Acknowledgement

The Katie Sullivan Instrument Library is location in St. John’s, home to a rich, diverse, and vibrant urban Indigenous community. Located on the ancestral and unceded territory of the Beothuk, the lands and waters in and around the City have traditionally served as a gathering place for the Mi’kmaq. The broader region of Newfoundland and Labrador continues to be home to diverse Indigenous Peoples, including First Nations, Inuit, and Métis. We honour and pay respect to the past, present, and future caretakers of these territories.
